Sometimes, families in our community experience hard times. Sadly, there are even times when children have to be removed from their homes for their safety. When this happens, children enter the foster care system. There are currently almost 6,000 foster children in Philadelphia.
Foster parents are heroes in our community. They elevate families by providing safe and supportive temporary homes for children.
You can help provide loving support for a child in Philadelphia's foster care system. Turning Points for Children offers a foster care training and certification program. This program will prepare you to elevate kids and families in our community.
Our foster parents come from all over the city and from diverse backgrounds. Foster parents can be married or single, gay or straight, young or old, home owners or home renters. In fact, you may be Philadelphia's next great foster parent.

Foster parents provide temporary care in their homes. This brings stability to a child during a time of often severe trauma. Children enter foster care because of child abuse, neglect, or special family circumstances. The ultimate goal is for the child to return home or find another permanent living situation. Sometimes, when children cannot return home, foster parents become adoptive parents. You can learn more about foster care and adoption by checking out our Foster Care Frequently Asked Questions page.
